Migrant Emotions: Inclusion and Exclusion in Transnational Spaces
For this book launch the editors, Sonia Cancian, Peter Leese and Soňa Mikulová will discuss the development, key themes, and methodological questions raised by their collection.
The book investigates the complex emotions of migrants and their feelings of exclusion and inclusion and in-betweenness throughout the process of migration. This cross-cultural collection incorporates case studies in the Asia-Pacific region, parts of Africa, and Europe. It argues that emotions are socially and culturally bound to the place and time of their making, and that in order to more fully grasp what it means to be on the move, a meaningful recognition of both cultural origins and place of settlement remains fundamental.
In addition to these discussions, the editors will be joined by two respondents: Kieran Connell, Reader in History, Queens University, Belfast, and Hannah Jones, Professor of Sociology, University of Warwick, Coventry, who will discuss the wider disciplinary, social and historical issues raised by the collection.
