Call for Artists
We are inviting all artists to apply for our very first Artist in Residence program, which awards sponsored residencies to working artists in 2026. Artists selected for this program can be in any career stage and work in all media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, fiber arts, photography, film, video, new media, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, graphic narrative, performance, dance, choreography, music, interdisciplinary social practice, arts professionals, environmental art, tech art/gaming art and architecture.
This residency invites artists whose work engages with questions central to the CultMind Centre’s mission, particularly those whose practices resonate with our research strands or the following themes:
- Trauma and Resilience
- Human Sciences
- Creative Therapeutics
- Migration
What we offer
- A combined stipend and production budget of up to 100,000 DKK to support your time during the residency. This total amount can be used for artist fees, materials, collaborators, and research-related expenses.
- Desk or work space
- Engagement with researchers across the Centre’s research strands
- Access to relevant archives, seminars, and academic events
- A platform to present your work, whether through an exhibition, reading, talk, or experimental public engagement format
- Optional mentorship, dialogue sessions, or critical feedback from CultMind researchers
Mutual exchange
We value reciprocity and collaboration. Residents will be invited to:
- Share work in progress through a conversation, workshop, or open studio (public facing and/or internal to the Centre)
- Participate in CultMind Centre Activities
- Engage in dialogue with CultMind researchers
- Participate in an end-of-residency presentation/artist talk, lecture/open conversation, or publication/dissemination opportunity
- Contribute to the residency archive through a final reflection, creative artifact, and/or documentation (flexible format)
There is no requirement to produce a final artwork—this can be a time for exploration, research, or beginning a longer-term project.
Who should apply?
All artists engaged with themes connected to the Centre are invited to apply. We strongly encourage applications from those with lived experience of mental health systems, disabled artists, artists from racialized or marginalized communities, and those working across borders and disciplines.
Applicants do not need formal academic training but should demonstrate thoughtful engagement with the themes of the residency.

Practical information
The residency is open to all, and the Centre can assist with finding accommodation in Copenhagen if you are located abroad.
We will also do our best to help you with the necessary paperwork for your stay in Denmark.
The length of the residency will be determined through an initial conversation about the project and the work you aim to accomplish during your stay. The exact stipend and production budget is subject to negotiation.
About the CultMind Centre
The Centre for Culture and the Mind explores how the human mind and common humanity have been imagined in different cultural, socio-political and disciplinary contexts, examining the assumptions and forces which shaped such definitions.
