Workshop Report: Shaping the global psyche
H-Madness has published DECOLMAD’s report on the Workshop “Shaping the global psyche: colonialism, transcultural psychiatry and global mental health”, organized by the “Decolonizing Madness” team, university of Copenhagen in collaboration with Prof. Aparna Vaidik, Ashoka University, New Delhi. It was held at the India International Center (IIC), New Delhi on the 2 and 3 February 2023.
The workshop comprised of four panels on the tensions and challenges in global mental health, Local and alternative concepts and therapeutics for the global psyche, psychiatric reform and standardization of psychiatry in India and globalizing psychoanalysis. A final roundtable event with four local practitioners in India presented diverse voices and perspectives on community and mental health practices in Delhi. The workshop welcomed and encouraged transdisciplinary approaches to its core questions, as well as interventions from anthropology, literary studies, mental health practice and medical humanities, among others”.
