Sociocultural factors play a role in mental health and its disorders, but have these factors and their influences been fully explored?

I am a PhD fellow, part of a team exploring the “globalness” of mental health in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. For my project, I will focus on West Africa (Nigeria and Ghana) and explore scientific and non-scientific literature on the pandemic and mental health – assessment, diagnosis, treatment and research components.

I will also extract ethnographic data from patients, health workers and traditional healers to delve further into transcultural psychiatry and global mental health.
